VOBI 11 20 09: ARE THEY WAKING UP AT LAST, OR WHAT?

When we read in Vanguard Newspaper of November 14 2009 a statement credited to the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Chief Ralph Uwechue: “Igbo marginalization can break up Nigeria” we couldn’t help but experience a fleeting moment of satisfaction and even relief. At last, an Igbo leader is stepping up to the plate; at long last an Igbo leader is showing some spine and may be even balls. May be an Igbo leader will stand up and speak truth to corrupt power; may be Igbo leaders will rise from their moral death beds; may be; just may be. The statement by Chief Uwechue is really not such an earth shattering revelation, or even such a big deal especially as everyone knows that Nigeria is already dead and just waiting to be buried, and especially as Chief Uwechue is still talking about building the “Nation” called Nigeria, whatever that means. However, the mere fact that Chief Uwechue pointed at just a tiny fraction of the horrific bad faith which the Sokoto Caliphate, and the Hausa Fulani Yoruba oligarchy have displayed towards the Igbo in the half a century existence of so called independent Nigeria is worthy of note. That such a tiny and non-threatening statement evoked even the slightest notice by anyone tells us a lot about the depth of despair the Igbo has suffered in Nigeria. Can you imagine what would have happened if the Cardinals and Bishops in all our churches, world-acclaimed international writers and intellectuals... More...

Current News Analysis from VOBI...

"...People of Biafra: You let Orji Uzor Kalu go scot-free. You let Iwuanyanwu get away without sanction. You let the Uba’s get away with murders. Scores of their ilk you let go without any penalty for damaging our defenseless people. These are all persons who sold their soul to Nigeria and became Nigeria’s vehicle for running over, maiming, crippling and killing our people. They did that for selfish gain and for greed, and they sold us out as the pun in their diabolical game. Today, Ohakim is following in their footsteps: are we going to let this happen? Are we going to let him get away, scot-free For one, we all know this without waiting for instructions: we are not going to participate in any Nigerian elections in our land. So, we boycott the next elections. Of course, the elections, if they hold, will be rigged and there will be violence; but we boycott these elections because it is wrong for us to participate in a process that not only offers us neither value nor benefit, but is guaranteed to rubberstamp Nigeria’s humiliation of our people and humiliating selection and imposition of “leaders” over us without our consent. Next, in keeping with our cultural practice, we ought to shun Ohakim for this egregious offense, for this aru. So, plan to boycott any and all Nigerian elections; for now, shun Ohakim; look the other way and spit when you see him. Don’t speak to him, but make it known in other ways that his was an act of aru. ”

MASSOB to Continue Struggle for Biafra

In a defiant tone, the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) on Tuesday in Onitsha, Anambra State, said no amount of intimidation would deter it from the chosen struggle.

Addressing reporters at a press conference, MASSOB'S Provincial Administrator, Chief Venatus Muoneke maintained that "we should not be deterred in our peaceful and non-violent struggle," saying the struggle was for a genuine cause which affects the whole Igbo race.

Muoneke further regretted that several hundreds of MASSOB members were languishing in various police cells and prisons across the country without trial and called on the Federal Government to immediately release the detainees.

Said he: "We are very mindful of the fact that during this kind of struggle in any society, there is bound to be reactionary elements that will make every possible effort to sabotage the struggle.

Continuing, Muoneke added: "We are also mindful... that more and severe persecutions from the government and its agents await MASSOB members, but we shall not be deterred in our peaceful and non-violent struggle," stressing further that the group did not regard its struggle as a "mission impossible."

Worried by the alleged government's high handedness against MASSOB, Muoneke challenged the government and the police to point any record of violence exhibited by the movement in its agitation.

He stressed that other ethnic militia movements operating in other geo-political zones have at one time or the other wretched havoc on the citizenry.

In his view, government's resolve was bent on silencing the MASSOB's peaceful agitation as well as perpetually marginalise and enslave the Ndigbo in the country.

As a way out, he said that MASSOB leaders are calling for a separate state of Biafra for the Igbo race, urging Igbo leaders of thought and politicians to rally their support for MASSOB.

CLARION CALL TO ALL BIAFRANS War in the Niger Delta

This is a “Clarion Call” to Biafrans – be you Annang, Efik,
Ibibio, Igbo, Ijaw, Ogoja, Ogoni, Itsekiri, Esan, Isoko, or
Urhobo. The time has come for every Biafran, no matter your
station in life to join hands with all the liberation
movements in Biafraland to chase the Nigerian Colonial
master and her forces of occupation out of our fatherland.
The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Niger
Delta region must be sustained, we salute their courage,
and we must rise in oneness and solidarity with MEND for
this great stride. The divide and rule strategy by the
oppressor which lead to distrust amongst our peoples must
cease, we have come to realize that Delta destiny is tied
up with Upland destiny. And finally we have come to realize
that Delta freedom is inextricably bound to Upland freedom.
The Nigerian vandal’s (army of occupation) war of genocide
is boundless, it has become their part-time to kill
Biafrans anywhere in Nigeria and in our homeland regardless
of whether you are Delta or Upland. Regardless of whether
you are Annang, Efik, Ibibio, Igbo, Ijaw, Ogoja, Ogoni,
Itsekiri, Esan, Isoko, or Urhobo. The standing order given
to them by their field commander, war criminal Brig.
Benjamin Adekunle in 1967 was ”shoot at anything
standing, animate or inanimate” still holds sway today. The
new monster Yar Adua re-echoed the same order which has
resulted in the total destruction of Azama, Kunukunuam,
Kuritie, Okerenkeko, Oporoza, Benikurukuru, Okoaranko.

We Have No Plans To Disrupt Anambra Election – MASSOB

Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), has said it has no plans to disrupt the February 2010 governorship elections in Anambra State .

MASSOB made this known through a statement signed by its Director of Information, Mr. Uchenna Madu.

The statement also disclosed that the movement had arrested one Nnamdi Kanu for alleged plans to disrupt the election using the name of MASSOB, adding that the movement has no such plans and cannot allow itself to be dragged into such an act.

The director of information added that the movement has no interest in stopping the election and does not have facilities on ground to stop elections, noting that the movement would not want to provide the Federal Government with an opportunity to impose its candidate on the people.

"We wish to inform all Biafrans and the world in general that MASSOB has captured a most wanted person in Biafran land named Nnmadi Kalu who led a London based-faceless group.

"He was once our member and moderator of a London-based Radio Biafra until he was influenced by some desperate Igbo politicians sponsored by the Federal Government of Nigeria to disrupt Anambra election in order to paint MASSOB black and create a negative impression on the non-violent group.

"He deviated and started using MASSOB’s name to form and organise armed men that would disrupt the 2010 Anambra governorship election. He also launched an offensive and a campaign of calumny against the person and position of Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu.

"Subsequently, we dissociated ourselves from him and declared him wanted in Biafra land on August 30, 2009, through Biafra Intelligent Agency (BIA)."

The MASSOB director of information, noted that the movement reliably gathered that Kanu had come to execute the disruption of the election using MASSOB’s name, "that was what prompted his arrest." the statement concluded.
